Case Study #1 – Major Airline

In 1997 the airline came to a point in time where it needed to re-develop its existing, outdated, chemicals storage facility. At the time they also recognised that they had other issues regarding the sourcing, storage, availability and shelf life exposure attached to this range of products and rather than maintain the then current paradigm, they approached the service solutions providers to request proposals for a new model, and new way of doing things.

One of our predecessor companies offered the airline a unique solution to their chemicals management problems, a solution was put into place which addressed their many chemicals management problems and which has developed into an integrated chemicals management solution of today.

The airline saw an improvement in availability and a significant drop in their shelf life obsolescence exposure almost immediately. Coupled with a significant reduction in their total cost of ownership of this range of commodities, it was clear that they had made the right decision.

Today, Aeropia supports the airline with over 22,000 product requests each year. At better that 99% service levels for stock items, the airline’s off-the-shelf availability is far beyond anything they could achieve managing the supply chain themselves. This improvement in availability has not been achieved by simply adding more inventory – this would not add value. In fact, total inventory in the support of the supply chain has been reduced by 30%. This is one of the key values provided by Aeropia,

The demand process between the mechanic or the local hangar store within the airline’s maintenance organisation and Aeropia is fully automated with the airline’s EDP system talking directly to Aeropia’s.

Once a demand is received, the product is picked, inspected and received onto the airline’s computer system within four hours. Deliveries are made twice a day, seven days a week.

In developing this totally automated communications system (even our invoices are processed electronically), we have achieved a totally paperless transaction. All certification paperwork is filed at Aeropia for the airline’s QA audit and, along with all material safety data sheets (MSDS) and technical data sheets (TDS), is available online at our infolink document delivery portal.
