Case Study #2 – Components Manufacturer
Recognising the value of supplier consolidation, this manufacturer of large structural components requested proposals for an on-site inventory management programme utilising a consignment inventory, owned by the supplier for the customers use.
We proposed that they use Aeropia’s ‘ACT’ Vendor Management Inventory (VMI) system that uses barcode technology to track inventory usage and to report that usage automatically back to our main inventory management system at Aeropia.
The system was put into place and the customer’s inventory availability increased dramatically almost immediately. At the same time, their purchasing costs were reduced significantly, allowing their purchasing team to concentrate on more value-added tasks.
Very soon after implementation, it became clear that the customer needed more local support as the requirements of each individual production cell was addressed. In response, and at no additional charge to the customer, we placed an Aeropia employee on-site. This on-site representative provided the customer with a first point of contact for all issues regarding the inventory, while working with the production cell leaders to ensure that all of their needs were being addressed.
Today, as the customer’s business is growing, Aeropia provides them with a complete chemicals management solution that is scalable in line with the growth in their business, while continuing to reduce their total cost of ownership. Additionally, working with the manufacturers of the products, we hold technical meetings with their production staff to ensure that they are being kept up to date with technology changes and new techniques.
